Delta Queen Mystery Song

Postby Carlton » Wed Feb 17, 2010 6:32 pm

OK....... it's stumped the 3 people I've asked. All die hard fans, who I thought would immediately come up with the correct title. Here's the lyrics the best that I was able to make them out

I saw a stranger last night
Walking death (?) in the road
I brought him into my house
There's a sign on (?)
I filled him up with warm drink
I layed him down in my bed
I layed him down on the side
I saw in the morning he'd wept
And in the morning he'd left
He left a light on my wall
There's a light on my wall
That reminds me of you
There's a light on my wall
That reminds me of you
And do you want to go home
I saw you alone and withdrew
There's a light on my wall
That reminds me of you
I never wondered so true
fades into Jumping Jack Flash

Wow--you're totally right! I was thrown by the much slower tempo (and maybe even different key) from the album version.

THANK YOU JOE (STARGICAL)! I was brainstorming this & coming up with nothing. I probably have 2 less brain cells now because of this. This is a sign that I need to listen to Down Out Law more often than I do.

Still wish I could have made the show. . . but I couldn't escape sickness running through our house. What a great setlist!
I was reading not long ago some of the initial reviews from Down Out Law that I found on the internet. Several compliments about KK's songwriting abilities and the mandolin playing on So Take A Look At Me Now. Who plays mandolin on the album version?

I wondered where you & your wife were as the evening progressed. It's good to see that you are better now. Down Out Law IS a wonderful album. I just find myself listening to MacDougal Blues, The Flower & The Knife, Broken Hearts & Auto Parts & Pre-Approved Pre-Denied more. I don't even know why. I make a vow to listen to Down Out Law more starting today.

Knew I had heard it before but it just wouldn't come to me. As luck would have it, as the plane was coming into Reno I was listening to the mp3 player and that song popped up in the shuffle. It was an AHA! moment.

Hmm...... forgot about that Bruce song. Can't say that I've seen that side of Reno in the 12 years we've been coming here for a week of snowboarding every year. If I run into her, I'll let you know. :)

Yep . . . as Robert says, everyone needs to listen to Down Out Law more often!

Pretty sure that Kevn plays all the instruments on that album, except the bass on the "Haight Street" song.

I would love another solo album of that stature . . .
